Blackbird Caye Resort

Maybe it's time to simplify. Stop waiting in lines for this and that, ditch the hours of empty TV and the boring commute to work and let nature bring you back to life at Blackbird Caye Resort, one of Belize's best-known outer-atoll dive resorts. It's the alternative for those times when "civilization" is more burden than benefit. Blackbird's new air-shuttle service from Belize's international airport (included in your stay for Saturday arrival and departures) gets you to the resort with a minimum of hassle - it's the only outer-atoll resort with an airstrip. In no time, you'll shed your stress and be ready for some of the best diving the Caribbean has to offer.

The atoll is surrounded by dozens of wall and reef dives, including popular sites like the Elbow, Coco Point and the Oasis. Most of these dives are only a few minutes by boat from the resort, so you have the added benefit of returning to the beach to relax between dives. Belize's famous Blue Hole and the spectacular dives around the marine reserve at Half Moon Caye are only a short distance away at Lighthouse Reef. A day trip to dive these two areas is made each week, and it also includes a nature hike and picnic lunch on the beach at Half Moon Caye.

For maximum convenience, Blackbird Caye Resort dive operations are located right on the dock, so your gear

can be rinsed and stored next to the boat. Tanks are filled dockside and the dive staff will set up your BCD and regulator for each dive. A side cutout for entry and exit means no awkward climbing around the boat — you just step off from deck level.

At day's end, get to know your fellow divers over a drink in Blackbird's new over-the-water cantina. Meals are served family-style in the resort's beach-side lodge, where the day's diving is recounted and relived over dinner. As the sun sets and the gentle breezes ruffle the water, you can sit on the porch of your private cabana and watch the stars light up the night sky—a truly spectacular sight so far from civilization!
