Hyperbaric oxygen therapy HBO

Since Haldane's original experiment52,53, oxygen has been the primary therapy for CO poisoning. The fact that CO elimination is proportional to the quantity of oxygen delivered justifies to the use of the highest possible pO2 -i.e., hyperbaric conditions. In 1960, Smith & Sharp were the first to provide this form of therapy54. Since then, its use has become so widespread that it is now considered in many countries as the standard of care in CO poisoning.
